On the 2nd of June 2015, the Technology Transfer Research Group officially became the newest member of the Michael Stifel Center Jena for Data-Driven & Simulation Science. The center aims at promoting interdisciplinary research and teaching in the area of data-driven and simulation-based sciences. In this connection, their main focus is on natural sciences (especially earth sciences, biology, chemistry, physics and medicine), mathematics and computer science, but also on social and behavioral sciences as well as humanities.

The center has identified the fields of data-driven and simulation-based sciences to be very promising fields of future research since they introduce two new paradigms into classic methods of knowledge production. These paradigms are known as the "knowledge from data"-paradigm, associated with data-driven sciences, and the "data from knowledge"-paradigm, which is inherent in simulation-based sciences. The Michael Stifel Center Jena builds on these two promising paradigms and aims at synergetically combining the two research areas within their organisation. The focus on these paradigms is reflected in the structure of the center which consists of three pillars: the data-driven sciences, the model-data-integration and the simulations-based sciences.
